Hancock Review

Another super hero film that is not like others, however due to some wooden acting at times it really doesn't classify as a great film.  Hancock isn't action packed. It doesn't have the classic super-hero against super-villain plot, more of a character study of the superhero and some of the issues (and vices) a superhero probably would have if they existed. The biggest conflict in the movie is within Will Smith's character's attitude, not necessarily good against evil.

Will Smith again, as in I Am Legend, really does his best to carry the film as far as he can.  But without a genuine goal, it was always going to peter out.  Although it does have one thing in its favor, unpredictability, which does make you sit there and watch the film to the end.  Not many people would have seen the PR's wife to be Hancock's "soulmate".   However its this lovey dovey stuff that is too cliche in a superhero movie today.  If i wanted to sit through an hour and a half of love stuff i'd watch Love Actually.

Peter Berg, the fresh faced actor/director, who created the fairly good The Kingdom, was back with Hancock. However it really does lack any reality and does not really do anything to make you think that this could be even partially real.  Currently lining up two films, a fantasy called Bran Mak Morn and a sci-fi by the name of Dune, set to both be released in 2010.  He really would be covering a lot of different genres.  Maybe to get the fullest out of his films he should hone his skills in a couple of genres and then go on to make other films.

Overall Hancock is a promising and entertaining film that is good to watch once or twice but always lacks that final punch to take to the next level.
